A simple balance check
With the door closed and the opener released, lift the door by hand. A balanced door lifts smoothly and stays put when stopped halfway. A door that feels heavy or drops needs attention.
Check the safety features
Test that the door reverses when it meets an obstacle and that photocells stop it when the beam is blocked. Look for frayed cables, loose hardware and noisy rollers.
Leave springs to a technician
Springs and cables hold a lot of energy and can cause serious injury. Do not adjust or replace them yourself. Call a trained technician if anything looks worn.
